Tau Alpha Pi Update Volume 8 Number 11

September 2011

Tau Alpha Pi has inducted over 525 new members this year. This is very positive sign that our 85 chapters are strong and active. We are working hard to add new chapters and are confident this will happen once schools start their fall semesters.

Below are programs ASEE administers for the Federal Government. Both undergraduates as well as graduate students are eligible to apply. I encourage you to go to these web sites for further details on engineering opportunities.

The Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program (NREIP)

NREIP is a ten week summer research opportunity for current undergraduate and graduate students, under the guidance of a mentor, at a participating Navy Laboratory. The stipend amounts for the program are highly competitive for undergraduate students and graduate students. U. S. citizenship required; permanent residents accepted at certain labs (see website for details). The application opens October 1, 2011 and must be completed by January 6, 2012. For further details, go to http://www.nreip.asee.org.

NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program

NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) is directed toward enhancing the state of aeronautics for the nation, transforming the nation’s air transportation system, and developing the knowledge tools and technologies to support future air and space vehicles. The ARMD focus is on cutting edge, fundamental research in traditional aeronautical disciplines, as well as emerging fields with promising applications to aeronautics.

The NASA Aeronautics Scholarship program administered through ARMD is an opportunity for highly motivated students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Engineering and related disciplines in accordance with the National Aeronautical R & D policy and its accompanying Executive Order, in an effort to help advance the nation’s aeronautics enterprise by investing in the educational development of the future aeronautics workforce.

Scholarships awarded include stipend and tuition payments ranging from $15,000 (Undergraduate) - $35,000 (Graduates)a year with an optional paid summer internship at a NASA Research facility. Students are covered for up to 2 years of support with an optional 3rd year for graduate students. The program is intended for citizens of the United States. Students must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for an award. Please visit http://nasa.asee.org for more information and to apply online from September to January.

SMART Scholarship for Service Program
